Hello! This month’s newsletter is a little later than usual because we’ve been away in a Tower. It was a very productive retreat and hopefully in the coming months (and longer!) you will hear and see the fruits of our labour. Until then what’s happening now I hear you shout?
Well! Of course first up we have Stone Club at The Social next month.
We’re really looking forward to an action packed evening with music, art and more from Cosmic Neighbourhood, a talk with Daniel & Clara on their Avebury project, a trip to Callanish through Julian Hand’s fantastic film and music from the wonderful Amy Hollinrake.
It will be celebratory. It will be fun. It will be cosmic! We might even have a special competition on the night… It will also be our last event for the year so come celebrate another year of stones and community!
Tickets are available here
What’s that smell? Is it Fläme? The new Stone Club x Änd perfume? Yes it is! Like a walk through a damp woodland, mushrooms under foot and bonfire smoke in the air it is the smell of spooky season. We are so pleased to have collaborated with our friends at Änd once again on this seasonal scent. There are still a few bottles left and they can be found here.
Member no 725, Eleftherios Fitsiolos, recently sent us this brilliant image of a bench just outside Castlerigg Stone Circle in Cumbria. We loved it and thought you might all too:
COMPETITION
This month we have thanks to member no 795, Stuart Anderson, a copy of Feral by George Monbiot to give away:
How many of us sometimes feel that we are scratching at the walls of this life, seeking to find our way into a wider space beyond? That our mild, polite existence sometimes seems to crush the breath out of us? Feral is the lyrical and gripping story of George Monbiot's efforts to re-engage with nature and discover a new way of living. He shows how, by restoring and rewilding our damaged ecosystems on land and at sea, we can bring wonder back into our lives. Making use of some remarkable scientific discoveries, Feral lays out a new, positive environmentalism, in which nature is allowed to find its own way.
To be in with a chance of winning please reply to this email telling us where would you like to run away to? Competition will close on November 17th at 6pm, and a winner will be notified shortly afterward.
Stone of the Month: November
The Holestone, Co.Antrim
We recently spent an afternoon stone hunting with some new friends in Co. Antrim. Our favourite site we visited was by far The Holestone. In order to get to it you have to clamber up a steep rocky outcrop, and fight your way through thick gorse. You are however rewarded greatly for your efforts with the incredible stone pictured below. Well worth seeking out if you find yourself near Doagh. We were lucky to have an incredible sunset when we were there and it certainly made for a wonderful ending to our trip!
Thanks so much to Michael Bates for driving us there and showing us the path.
Don’t forget to snap up your Stone Club Calendar
and this year we have diaries too! Perfect for keeping track of all your stone hunting adventures. They can be snapped up here.
If you’re in Cornwall you can catch us on December 2nd selling records at Verdant Taproom in Penryn alongside many other brilliant folk, we’ll also be hitting the decks for a bit. The faire is on 11am-6pm (and if you’re interested in selling send an email to the_passman@yahoo.co.uk)
For now friend’s that is all! We’ve a new episode of the podcast coming soon but you can catch up on the old one here and Matthew just released that played last month at Barclodiad y Gawres. Crwydro Cymru Hynafol was recorded on a series of walks stopping at Bryn Celli Ddu Burial Chamber, Din Lligwy stone settlement, Gop Hill Cairn, Moel Arthur Hillfort.
See you next month! x
